Trip to Parc Mine level 2 -- 9th Oct 2005

Group: Dennis, Paul, Dave

We planned this trip to investigate level 2 after the dig as the previous trip had to be curtailed due to problems with lights and also to show Paul the mine as he had missed previous trips.

We set off early and headed through the adit entrance and then right at the junction with the principal lode. There was a bit more timber on the floor, but the mine was pretty dry. We reached the dig and Dave rigged a safety line at the top of the ladders and then shouted for Dennis to come up. Paul was next, but didn't appear.

After a lot of shouting, Dave descended the ladders and wandered along level 2 and eventually found Paul who hadn't realised he was meant to up rather than down initially. We all got together at the top of new shaft and had a good look around at the pump rods and angle bobs and then looked in Llanrwst Endeans shaft.

We descended back to the platform and then down the short ladder to the continuation of level 3. There were quite a few holes in the floor and lots of fallen timberwork from the upper stopes and collapsed ore chutes.

Further along the falls penned in a stretch of water which was just about welly boot deep but after about 100 yards we could walk dryshod again. The floor under the rails disappeared and the rails were supported on steel chains anchored into the walls - in places this was not obvious as bits of timber and rubble covered the rails,

There are quite a few dodgy sections, one with a safety line protecting the traverse. After a few more awkward sections there was a bit collapse and the way on was through a hole in a boulder ruckle. This put Dennis off and so he hung back while Paul & Dave negotiated the squeeze. Once through this the passage opened up again and the floor was solid. We found the sloping ore divertor wagon and a little further on was the ladderway down to level 3 on the otherside of the blockage. We had a potter around some of the early parts of Cyffty mine which is above level 2 at this point and is accessible via a ladder. After that we retreated and picking up Dennis en route headed back through the dig and out via the adit.

trip time about 3 hours
