Trip to Parc Mine level 2 -- 20th Jan 2007

Group: Mary, Paul, Dave

We hadn't been in Parc Level 2 for a while and Mary had never been in and so it was decided to have a quick trip to see how far we could get and have another look at the section of the mine beyond the dig.

We parked up in the normal place and changed into oversuits, but kept the lamps & helmets in a rucksack till be got to the adit entrance to avoid unwanted attention. Once through the portal we discovered that some deterioration of the mine had occurred since the last visit.

It looked like quite a bit of rubble had fallen from the upper levels and partially blocked the passage. This stopped water escaping via the adit and hence it pooled up to about 2' deep. We waded through this and after about 80 yards the level decreased and we could empty our wellies. A short distance ahead lay the junction in the principal lode. We crossed the plank and took the right hand passage towards the dig.

It looked like there had been a few more falls of timber from the upper levels, but there were no problems climbing over the obstacles and after a short while we reached the bogie and the shortly after that the ore chute with the stalactites and the dig itself.

A quick crawl through the dig revealed a platform with a ladder and we quickly climbed up to the top of new shaft and then slid along the connecting passage to Llanrwst Endeans shaft for a butty stop.

After this we headed down the ladder and below the platform back into level 2 and headed towards Cyffty. We stopped to look at various formations and then headed on to dodgy section supported on chains.

We crawled through the boulder ruckle and reached the "ore deflector" wagon and thence the ladders down to level 3 after the blockage. After having a look in the easily accessible parts of Cyffty (the passage above level 2) we headed out back through the dig to the junction and daylight.

Total trip time about 3 hours
